Based on the provisions and procedures of the Law on Telecommunications and the decision of the Kosovo's Government for adoption of country's call sign Z6 (Ref. Decision Nr. 01/89, date; 29/08/2012) as a call sign for the whole territory of the Republic of Kosova, the Board of Directors of Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) on September 12th, 2012 approved the Regulation for Amateur Radio Services, creating the necessary legal framework for the development of amateur radio services in the Republic of Kosova.
On the occasion of recommencement and launching of Amateur Radio services after more than two decades, TRA in close coordination with the Association of Radio Amateurs of Kosova (SHRAK) and the delegation of the International Radio Amateurs Union Region 1), chaired by Mr. Hans Blondeel Timmerman, organized a special launching activity during September 17th & 18th. Part of the international amateur delegation were also radio amateurs coming from USA, Great Britain, Finland, Croatia and Netherlands, as well as senior officers from local institutions such as representatives from: MEST (Ministry of Education, Science & Technology), the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo and also the Association of Radio Amateurs of Kosova.
During this activity the first eleven licenses are delivered to local amateurs followed with the first visitor license issued during the September 18th. The first communication with the call sign Z60K issued for this special launching event started at 19:00 PM local time. All this activity was covered by public broadcaster Radio Television of Kosova - RTK.
From now on, the Association of Radio Amateurs of Kosova as well as young enthusiasts who wish to be licensed, can develop their activities in the field of amateur radio services in the Republic of Kosova, using the call sign Z6.
